Jose is a Controller and joined us from a Controller/CFO position at the National Thoroughbred Racing Association! In addition to his work with horse racing, he also has his degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky solidifying his status as a Kentuckian.
While Jose has a lot in common with people at the office – a long history in Lexington, a love for UK sports, an adorable dog (a Frenchie!!) – he also has had some unique experiences… like representing Venezuela at the 2008 Olympics in track and field (we know, it’s crazy). Jose says this was one of the best experiences of his life but changed his love for Usain Bolt into a love/hate relationship, since running with Usain as a competitor is less than ideal. Jose also qualified for the 2012 Olympics but missed it for the birth of his son… he says he’d take that over a medal, which gives us all the warm fuzzies. While his Olympic days are over, he’s aiming to get a MiddleGround relay race going, which sounds like a fun team bonding activity until you realize he’s referring to a 217-mile relay with 12-26 miles per person… a slightly tougher sell.
